New Apple LED Cinema Display Review

by Administrator on December 7, 2008

Apple Insider just recently published a review of Apple’s LED Cinema Display and here are important things from the review -

- New black, glass-covered front that wll make the display look beautiful but makes it easier for fingerprints and dust.  At the same time, it introduces gloss and reflection.

- Thinner design that prevents the display from looking “fat”

- The new shell design of the display is more eco-frienly and it is free of arsenic, mercury, brominated flame retardants, polyvinyl chloride…WOW

- 2.1 Channel sound setup with internal subwoofer that pipes sound through the bottom and bounces it towards you.

- iSight camera that allows owners with Macbooks to hold video conversations.  The camera offers the basics and it doesn’t have zoom and does create visible noises when the lighting is low.

- Apple has decided to get rid of FireWire 400 ports that were available on older Cinema displays

- Availability of MagSage adapter for charging MacBooks

- Absence of power buttom where the display turns on/off automatically when a powered device is plugged in or removed.  The biggest drawback to this is that a user is unable to turn off the display and leave the computer running.

- Absence of dedicated brightness or speaker volume controls
