One of the things that bothered me about iTunes7, is that even though it has a great interface for managing the iPod, I couldn’t get it to update my first gen iPod Nano to the 1.2 firmware due to an unknown error in 1417 (Restoring it gives you unknown error 1418). But now, thanks to the admin of Chernick.org I now can.
Here are the steps you have to follow:
1) Plug in your iPod and wait for iTunes to to come up and show you that your iPod is connected
2) Click the Update or Restore button and wait for iTunes to come back with the updating dialog box.
3) The second that happens, unplug the iPod, wait a couple SECONDS, plug the iPod back in and wait for iTues to pick it up again (the dialog box should still be there and it will look like its doing nothing)
4) You might notice some slow-down in the progress meter and then a couple seconds later you should see the bar move and complete the process it should have done in the first place
5) And That’s it. Wait for the update to finish and iTunes will re-recognize it and show its new up-to-date status.
If you follow the steps you will not go wrong … I have done this and I can even post a link from the original post that will show you at least a 100 replys saying “Thank you, it worked”.
Enjoy and Good Luck!
