Sound Overview

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Sound cards range from simple built-in features to elaborate two-piece devices with physical control panels that mount into a 5 1/4-inch drive bay. The basic purpose of sound cards is to allow the user to hear sounds played by the OS and programs, along with music from audio CDs and other audio files, plus sound from DVD and other types of videos. In addition, these allow for voice communication using software such as Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, and Windows Messenger, along with Internet telephone calls, voice-recognition software, and other uses.

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Screaming headlines in recent years have made the public aware of stolen laptops and desktop computers that contained the personal records of thousands of millions of individuals. These thefts might not have exposed anyone’s personal data if the hard drives in the stolen computers had been encrypted and protected by strong passwords. Various third-party solutions have long been available to encrypt sensitive data folders and entire hard drives. With Vista, Microsoft now enters this market with BitLocker Drive Encryption. (more…)

You can make URLs print in full almost every time by clicking Tools➪Internet Options. On the General tab, click the Fonts button and then select a Web page font that’s more compact than Times New Roman, such as Vista’s Cordia New. Programs Explorer Replaces Add/Remove Programs in windows vista

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Legions of Windows users have become accustomed to using the Add or Remove Programs dialog box in the Control Panel to uninstall applications that they no longer want taking up space on their hard disks. So, in its frustrating way, Microsoft has renamed this feature to make it even harder to find than it was before. To reconfigure or completely remove an application, you now use the Programs Explorer. This applet also enables you to turn on or off many of the built-in features that come with Windows Vista, such as the Indexing Service. Fortunately, the Programs Explorer is still available through the Control Panel. You just need to know to look for it in the Ps instead of the As.

Friday, March 30th, 2007

One thing you won’t find on the default Start menu is the Run option, which generations of Windows users have employed to start programs that may not appear on any menu. The omission isn’t a problem—if you know the secret. Simply type the name of the program you want to run (such as notepad) into the Start Search bar just above the Start button and then press Enter.

How to burn subtitle onto dvd?

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

So, you have a movie in .avi format with .srt files and you want to burn this movie to a dvd, so you watch it on your big screen. You also want to burn the subtitles, so you can practice your English too. Well follow the steps below -

1. First, you will need to download the following software -

# Supported video formats: Convert AVI, Mpeg, Mpeg4, DivX, Xvid, MOV, WMV, WMV HD, DV, MKV, DVD to DVD and more…
# Supported sources: existing files from digital camcorders, TV/Sat, capture cards
# Can merge up to 4 hours of material from several movies or episodes
# Supported audio formats: AC3, DTS, PCM, OGG, MP3, and more…
# Handles subtitles files (.SRT .SUB/IDX) with color and font selection, and supports tags (italic, bold)

2. Install the software and place your film.avi & .srt file in the same folder. Load the file and choose either color PAL or NTSC. Output must be DVD-5 and it will take around 6-7 hours for processing depending on the speed of your computer.

3. In the option, change it to your sub language and this will make the subtitle option appear in the menu when you are watching it.

But with a properly configured USB flash drive on hand, you’ll always have a compatible replacement no further away than your pocket or keychain. In addition, the flash drive can also provide a secure browser and virus scanner, and lets you take your favorite DVD burning and Office software with you wherever you may go.
