The Samsung Instinct-M800 is the pinnacle of Samsung design as of this writing. It is a candy bar style touch screen device with everything that a user could possibly want. The Samsung Instinct includes a 2.0 mega pixels and a 3.1 touch screen with vibration feedback. No price for the moment for Telus but we think it’s very similar to bell price. The Samsung Instinct maintains the same minimalist form factor, carrying a 3.1-inch touchscreen with it plus only three hard keys on its face. It also features local haptic feedback so that you’ll be able to feel each key press on its slippery touchscreen display.

Colors popped, graphics were vibrant, and text was crisp. Indeed, it’s one of the better displays we’ve seen in a while but [it] can look rather cramped. Additional features include advanced stereo Bluetooth 2.0, integrated world clock, SMS voice and text messaging with threaded text, Phone as Modem, picture caller ID and Sprint Mobile Sync. Add to that the entire Eco-system inclusive of iTunes Store and Mobile Me, all synced on my computer at home and work and the futures looking very exciting indeed. Finally, Sprint claims its standard provides average download speeds of 800 kbps to 1.4 Mbps, while AT&T claims its EDGE network provides between 75 and 135 kbps on average.
Sprint is forcing on would-be Instinct customers plans that it isn’t even (yet) forcing on its PDAphone customers, EVEN THOUGH, the Instinct is NOT a PDAphone, it is just another MM touch-featurephone. Verizons got several such phones (Voyager, Glyde, Dare) and even it isn’t treating those phones any different than any other MM feature phone in terms of plan requirements. Sprint considers it a competitor not a “killer”. However this to me is more a killer than a competitor. Sprint should have talked to you guys about developing a version from the get go. One of the iPhones strengths is it’s Safari browser and Opera Mini is the closest I’ve seen to a full browser on a mobile cellphone platform.
The Samsung Instinct was initially priced at $449.99, which is a more than fair price for what it has to offer. Sprint just sliced off $150 for a 2 year plan and a added a further $100 mail in rebate. The Samsung Instinct seems like a great handset with interesting features that the iPhone lacks at the moment. It could have been positioned as a viable alternative to the current gen iPhone, especially for users unwilling to switch to the AT&T network just to get a touch screen smartphone. The Samsung Instinct comes with 2 standard batteries in the box, so you just switch them out while you charge the other.
The Samsung Instinct launched on June 20th and Sprint has a 30 day return policy, that would put the trial period until a minimum of July 19th. If everything goes optimally, that gives potential subscribers an overlap of 8 days to try out the Apple iPhone and see what is the better device for them. The Samsung Instinct phone was first available exclusively to Sprint customers on June 19 breaking records for the initial launch of any Sprint product. Instinct became available to all customers on June 20; sales continued to be brisk with Instinct breaking Sprint’s record for the first week of sales for any mobile device.
