Charter High Speed Internet Problems

Blogged in Internet Wednesday December 27, 2006 at about 11:54 pm

I’ve been having speeds issues with Charter High Speed Internet for over a month now. I had around 5-6 tech guys come over and look at my connection. Every they run some test, look at the modem and say everything is working fine. The last tech guy finally told me that they have too many people on 1 node and now people have 5 Mbit and 10 Mbit packages. So, charter is overselling their bandwidth and people like me suffer. I was told that this has been going on for a 2-3 months and they have no idea when they can fix this. Why sell high end packages when they don’t even have the bandwidth for it. I have a 3 Mbit package and I am getting around 1-1.5 Mbit after 3 PM and speeds go back to normal 3 Mbit around 1 AM. Try playing a game and every time i get kicked out and its really annoying the crap out of me. I did everything the charter guys told me over the phone - turning off computer and modem, unplugging everything, power cycle, leaving computer and modem off for few hours, changing IE settings, going into safe mode, checking IP, running speed test 50 times, ipconfig/all, uninstalling the network card etc etc etc. Nothing helped. Even after telling them on the phone that i have done this before, they make me do this every single time. they just enjoy following a book instead of actually listening to people on the phone. When they run out of tests, they just tell you that they will send a tech guy over.

I might be wrong but i think charter automatically changes speed settings for users that suck up a lot of bandwidth. The reason i say that is when I was on phone with charter tech, they were able to fix my speed and I was back to 3 Mbit but after a while, my speeds went back to 1.2 or 1.5 Mbit. Just a theory ..

We have charter tv and everything is running smooth but charter pipeline service sucks big time. I am just not happy about the fact that they are offering 10 Mbit connection when they don’t even have the bandwidth for it. I guess it’s all about the money. I am going to wait for 1 more month and if i see no changes, I will prob give verizon a try.
