We are all aware of how internet has revolutionized the way we make calls. Now we have many services online that offer cheap or free voip calling between computers. You can find a complete list of voip at wikipedia and dmoz.
I personally don’t use voip to call other computers but I sure use voip services to call relatives or other phones. The only reason for that is the cost compared to traditional phone lines. Calling other phones using your computer is extremely cheap and you can save a ton on your monthly bill. For example, my current voip provider is Skype - www.skype.com
and I am using them to make international calls and also call locally which is unlimited. I currently subscribe to their $29.95 per year package that allows me to make unlimited calls to any phone within US and canada. Keep it mind its only $29.95 per year not per month. You can pay monthly if you want and it will cost you $3.00 per month. Now when you compare that to regular phone bill of $24 and up, you can easily around $252 per year on your phone bill. You also have the option to use the skype pro package that will allow you to obtain a phone number for your skype account and this will allow anyone with ordinary phone to call you.
If you don’t like the feeling of computer headset, you can order an voip phone from Skype Store USA
